  4. DIGITAL HIGHLIGHTS
  5. DEUTSCHE BORSE PHOTOGRAPHY FOUNDATION PRIZE 2018

3: UNDER COVER: A SECERET OF CROSS-DRESSERS:

From when you walk into the room and straight out on this floor, you have no bigger prints than of about 6x4' but a good amount of these images are placed on the display of what can be said at a near most of 100 images altogether or even over for this project space exhibition being shown. The thing that I noticed what was being displayed was a lot of the images whereupon and on feminist and female cross-dressing as back then it was a big taboo creating and making this kind of cross-dressing and on top even shooting these images, as all the images in these clothing worn by females where roles for only men as they were deemed only fit to work in that area at the time. These images collectively and perosnally came form a collector named sebastien Lifshitz, this was never possible without him as with his work and comemtinment he found these hidden and out of sight images that may of never been seen by people looking at these images by history and art, indifed of them behing helf either in the attic or a bin. The images that are all dispalyed go back till the 1880's and onwards from then. The images that are group displayed and unnamed are mostly found and collected together when bought at the same time form flea market, garage sale or even ebay its self. This not only makes you wonder what kind of things like these treasures you could find yourself in the attic of your own house or just going to a car boot sale in the UK and buy some frames and possibly owning a rich and authentic image.Looking down the gallery you had a very noticeable and good split design of the females crossing dressing into male clothing, to the end of the images having the men cross dress into female clothing. The fact that this was a big no go back in 1800 to do as bad as you would be shamed and almost forgotten and homeless by that point or even abused, nowadays you see people cross dress but we don't shame them as much for it as a community we have started to expect different cultures and people around us.

It is said that the exhibition offers and creates a true and update issue which is the trans community which supports and shows the world where a personal choice is celebrated rather than been shamed and told to have to do normally as everyone else does it.Overall I thought the style that the work got displayed and set up was very simplistic but great for what was being attracted as an issue of the expectancy of other culture and trans choice upon the community. The only thing that I disliked about the set up of the room was the fact at random areas you had a large frame with 9 or 12 prints then another 9, 6x4' images and then another large frame with images clustered together, I didn't like this as I think this didn't make the area seem so thought through and analyzed. This looked like it was created in a rush and a short time frame.

Overall I would recommend having a look and a wonder around the area as a lot of these images are very powerful and also inspirational to what people dreamed and wanted back in 1800 to what we seem as a normal day to day in 2018.
