On Thursday 22/02/2018, at Copthorne Hotel in Plymouth at 7pm, there was a print auction put in place to bid and sell images to raise funds for the London exhibition that they will be having upcoming this year. This print auction was created and managed by the 3rd years from PCA.
I thought to go as a 1st-year student was a good idea to turn up as not only was it support for the 3rd years but it also gave me an insight to have a look at what they have and what they missed out so that in my 3rd year I could implement and improve upon.

Overall the actual auction was very interesting and went well as everything was sold, but I feel it could have been sold for much higher prices as there wasn't a lot of people bidding, which I think is because of the lack of advertising of this event.

The event was well run as there were no big issues that didn't come up, and if they did they weren't visible to be seen as a person at the event, any issues that come up where also dealt well.

Things to improve upon:

  • Something I've noticed is that if you had the lot numbers in order on the slides and books to make it better for sale order.
  • I think that it wasn't advertised enough. It was only shown and seen around PCA it could have been placed in and around Plymouth and even social media where you can have a bigger reach to people.
  • Some eBay live actions could be sold at the same time as the images at auction as they could be sold for more.
  • Invite more restaurant owners to the event local or chain anyone within Plymouth
Invite people that may have further connections in photography such as Russ from the barbarian who owns the vintage camera shop.
  • Keep all the information the same and endorsing the same on the slides not missing any or not filling it out. So have size, name, date, the photographer on each image.
  • We could buy prints off eBay and resell for more money and also that means we will have more prints for sale.
  • We could have a competition within the 3rds and the top 3 students images that win will be printed for a one time copy and sold at auction.
  • Maybe have the auction on a weekend day such as Friday, Saturday or Sunday as this is when the majority of people have there day off.
  • Invite family and friends as it seemed slim of family coming down this year.
  • Advertise heavily on social media as this is a great way to advertise the event.
  • Bids started at a very high price so it turned people away, so I would say have in the auctioneer with a booklet of his own with starting prices to start the bids from.
  • Also, invite the Plymouth UNI students and lectures as they would be as interested to see what PCA gets up to.
  • Also, have a higher set of images and more of an even set as its much cleaner and interesting so instead of having 34 images as they did for the F29 this year (2018) have around and about 50 images to sell.
  • Another way to push sales would be the fact having it close to a special day within the year, such as mothers day, valentines day as this could be a factor to also push to give a loved one or family a present that is one of a kind and different.

The f29 poster very smooth and sleek but not advertised as much
