I went to visit Suki Dhana’s race, place and diversity by the seaside around 3-4 times, the times I went to have a look I saw new things how the work was displayed or new things in the images such as playing ping pong with ice cream, as at 1st glance I thought it was staged image but then you can see and notice the ping pong ball in movement. After the times I walked in and out I had new perspectives on work and how they all look, also I looked at over the time into images I didn’t appreciate or like as much as some images I personally didn’t like.
A lot of the images when looking at the work where to some extent I would argue candid images as they weren’t very powerful nor strong images and I could happily argue about this as yes the image was sharp, but they were very staged so you can tell that Suki at this point is a studio photographer because of this as she doesn’t think about the effect on film outside with a small change as some images have a weak aesthetic look on them.
With this you can also the set up of the work is very candid set up of her exhibition also as most of the images where moving away form the wall as the sting and images where just warping because of the heat within the gallery space which you can see that she didn’t think about this being a factor of issues, some of her text on the wall was also slowly peeling off you could see.
After looking at the image you could see there was a race and diversity within the series, but something that doesn’t really jump is Brexit and I would she only throw that in there as a topic to make herself seem relevant within her work rather than what the work was actually based on as I would say there was a lot of work that didn’t work within the theme of Brexit.
