Day 1:
On the 1st day that we had to go in within the week we only had a model briefing in the studio theatre in PCA to understand what we had to analyse and create overall for that week whilst we created the work as a group. The brief was to create describe and make an art school ready for 2030. Instantly I started to think that’s not to far away so any builds or any changes would have to be possibly able to be scaled and created within this time frame as some small extension to house and places take around a year or 2 to create and make. Such as the Box museum next to PCA is a 2-year build to have an extension and refurbishment, this won’t be finished till 2019, with this thought in mind I carried on listening to the brief overview, within the groups that we make we had to have an Art school, Manifesto and Artefact all for 2030. The plan was over this one week to create make and plan all 3 factors within the group to see what we can come up with and create.
Day 2:
On the second day we had been placed in groups, my meeting and working point was in the Ba fashion group which I’ve never went to have a look at their work space nor work in there either. What we did on the first day as a group was only the start to see what we wanted for the art school. To start off we all sat in an around some tables in a random order then we went individually around telling and saying our names and what course we study within PCA. After that we sat around in 3 tables in a random order and got given 3 a3 sheets each then made one each sheet a point for the art school, manifesto and artefact. Then after we said our points and things we would use or say for them areas, then on 3 tables we placed all the art school, manifesto and artefact together from the 3 groups so that everyone’s points could be read. We then fairly chose what areas we wanted to go and make which turned out a fair and reasonable amount of numbers within each group. I chose the art school as that was a mixture of small design and facts around and about the school and push to make it a better place for everyone in and around the area it's self. This is what we established and created on the 1st day which is good as we have now a structure to work off and a think over night on what we could do in this area will be helpful.
The plan for our group was to tackle issues that could be addressed throughout the building. What we found out the biggest factor was spacing out of everything as we all agreed upon this. We also then found out some rooms needed more natural light and others less light so to do that we build up to have more space for courses that want and need more natural lights along with building down to have gaming arts with less lighting for them to see and have a better orientation on the screens. Another plan was to bring the community to Plymouth to PCA its self so that we see and they see what it’s like inside a life of a student and what we work with. As a plus you then also have a pass of word to mouth in and around the community making the ocean city grow and gain popularity of choice by students to be and going into PCA gaining growth which would be great for the redemption of getting better and bigger budgets for the equipment to be made, experiment and bought for PCA to improve every lecture and facility in PCA.
Day 3:
On the 2nd day of working together as a group. We as a group decided to work together and create a working group so that all 3 sections of the brief relate to one another so that it has a nice flow system, meaning we made smaller groups to work and make the bigger group by communicating together. We together as a group at the time decided to work together and create a working group so that all 3 sectors correlate and flow to each other, so every hour or 2 we went to other groups and checked upon them to see what they were creating and what, thinking and making. With this we had a much smoother finish and work flow that actually was noticeable that worked well within our group work as they all linked to each other. On this day we as a group in the art school department we designed, planned and created a slide show ready for a show case to be printed and we also created a 3D model on maps to show how we would remodel and structure the building of PCA and to show what virtual changes we would make. The only stage and out there idea we had was to add a zip line form the additional added building space that we made on PCA would zip in to The Box museum to create a fun and good revenue for the Collage, we also decided to add on a garden roof so that you could go and study as well as have an amazing time to clear thoughts of any issues you may have, and at night let the us take over and make party’s to have fun with other students. we also added the artefact part to our area too, there plan was to create and make another gallery, but much more up to date and opening for other photography’s to display as it would be a glass structure with the PCA logo on top and have solar panels so that there’s free energy being ran to make it work. With the manifesto we let them know things that we would change and make so push the community in Plymouth and around from everywhere to come and PCA to offer and have a membership that you can buy and receive things but not as much as students so that the Collage can make a steady income of money, so these memberships would offer there print lab prices, library and macs but not the ERC equipment nor the room specialized for working in departments.
Day 4:
On the 3rd day together as a group, we started thinking about the presentation of our work and lay out of how it should be shown. For the Art school we decided to make it like a long journey to get to that place, so we went for an option of walking like a path, we printed the slide show out and placed it on the paths such as a walking journey of our ideas and growing theory’s to create the art school that finally led to the outcome which was an A3 print of the design of how PCA would look like in 2030. We also placed trees, grass to make the journey seem much more if an aspect of walking but also a growth in time so that it shows nothing happens in seconds only over time. Overall this presentation we had was very different and skill full as it’s a play on with objects and things as well as making it look usually nice, we also had a zip line going form the image to a tree that would be next to The Box. I also then in spare time made arrows along the entrance of the room walking towards the work we made collectively as a group. We used 2 tables to display the work 1 was to show our thoughts and working progress and then the other with the outcome and finished work.
After we displayed all the work we went collectively as a group, we presented to the class next to us. Then went around and look at what the other cohorts made and points that came up with. A lot of the factors were very put there like a cruise ship that went around the world, options based of the Eden project or things and buildings like pencil sharping’s which has the art theme in it which was a great idea but a hard structure to create and make. Another thing that I noticed which I sort of wish our group had thought and added in was the name it would be PCA it would be PUA (Plymouth University Arts) by 2030. The thing that I saw was that all the designing of the other groups for sure were completely out there and maybe not do able over the time scale as PCA would have to be relocated also to a different area whilst new buildings got put in place. As with our group we stayed in the area and build up and down not across destroying any roads.
